About Us
MAKUTA (Jane, Doug, Aleata, and Rose) are an alternative soulful pop-rock band based out of Brooklyn, New York.
In 2019, the band released their highly anticipated new album “Phosphenes” worldwide, a collection of songs that chronicle their personal journey, carefully crafting and combining classic songwriting with a fresh injection of riotous rock, cinematic pop, and soulful grooves, all by their own design. Playing nearly every instrument on the album (including cello, harp, violin, and viola), and while largely self-written and produced, the album also boasts an eclectic host of collaborations, including Toronto’s City Fidelia, and others.
Presently, the band is hard at work on new music.
MAKUTA has been featured on CBS, Wells Fargo commercials, Zumba commercials, Billboard, NPR, Lifetime, and Yahoo!, and have received critical praise from the likes of Perez Hilton. They were also featured headline performers at the inaugural GRAMMY© Block Party (and subsequently featured on the GRAMMY’s official website + social media pages). They have toured nationally with The Band Perry, Keaton Simons, and others, and collaborated with numerous artists and producers of note, including Timbaland, Janis Ian, Hunter Hayes, Ron Carter, Mike Viola, Peedi Crakk, Bleu, and Scott Storch, among others.
